In the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands - not much more than an old trading store and a train station where local timber is collected. Michaelhouse, an exclusive private boarding school located along the railway line, is one of the reasons why Balgowan attracts numerous families. Bosch Hoek is a beautiful well-established country estate with a 9-hole golf course. Balgowan is also home to farmers mostly in the timber, cattle, and dairy products industry. A number of accommodation venues, arts and craft outlets like Ardmore, and restaurants like La Lampara and Caversham Mill run through Balgowan on the R103 road. Woodridge is also a lovely residential estate located in Balgowan with the newly renovated Mount Shekinah County Hotel being a wonderful venue.
